Scott’s career as an artist started with an unexpected landing in St Tropez in 1977….while he was on a mission to start painting in Italy. He was welcomed openly to the local community as a serious and talented painter working from life in the laneways and squares of the timeless village where so many other celebrated artists had been. During the eight years of his life in St Tropez he had several independent solo exhibitions, participated in the annual Peintres de St Tropez shows and exhibited in London and Japan.

In 1986 he acquired an old cork farm in the sierra de Aracena in Spain and moved there to paint the rugged landscapes and village scenes of Andalucia. Most of these paintings were sold in London and this two and a half year period in Spain culminated with an exhibition of fruit paintings in Madrid . He then moved back to France …this time near a village called le Carla Bayle overlooking the Pyrenees in the far South. During this time he sold most of his work through local commissions and exhibitions in London.

He is now living in sub tropical Northern New South Wales , Australia . His vibrant works continue to sell through commissions and various galleries in Sydney. Russell’s formation as a painter and dedicated artist came about largely from his fortunate acquaintance with the Bloomsbury artist Duncan Grant .He lived with and helped to look after Duncan during the last years of the distinguished painters life at his home “Charleston” in Sussex. It was after Grant’s death that Russell made the decision to take up painting as a profession and set off for Italy.
